Ecological sustainability

E.W.NEU focuses on sustainability and has already initiated and implemented a large number of measures and activities in the context of ecology. E.W.NEU pays attention to sustainability and invests in ecologically and economically measurable activities in the long term and strategically strives for a continuous improvement process (CIP). Below we show you the measures implemented over the years.

This includes the photovoltaic system installed in 2013 on the roof of the company's headquarters in Worms, which covers about 55% of the company's own energy needs, meaning that less than half of the energy has to be purchased.

An air-source heat pump was also installed in 2015, further improving the energy efficiency of the main building. In 2017, all exterior and interior lighting was switched to energy-saving LED lamps. E.W.NEU has also been using pure green electricity since 2020. In 2022, four electric charging stations will be installed by April. Our goal is to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions of the vehicle fleet on an ongoing basis, and with the electric charging points this is the cornerstone for CO2 reduction. The charging stations will be made accessible to the public. The conscious use of resources is decisive for E.W.NEU, here are a few examples:

Surface water is drained in an environmentally friendly way with an on-site infiltration pit. Cardboard/packaging/plastic insulation materials are stored, separated and 100% reused as insulation material. Recyclable surplus has been returned to the packaging cycle for over 10 years through participation in the "Green Dot" scheme.

Our central warehouse in Wuppertal has an optimised supply chain from the supplier to the regional E.W.NEU warehouses in Worms and Speyer by bundling the stock items. The warehouse holds approximately 110,000 items, which are collected, packed and sorted out in a largely automated process. The resource-saving handling of the parcels is carried out by a "CVP" packaging machine, which has been in use since the beginning of 2021. Currently, approx. 30% of all parcels are packed by the machine (corresponds to up to 2,500 parcels per day, internal target: > 3,000 parcels per day). Since April 2021, no bubble envelopes have been used, which means a reduction of 100%. In addition, no delivery note pockets are attached to the outside of the parcel (packaging reduction of 100%). Automation has led to a reduction in parcel size of up to approx. 20 - 30%. The result is a lower volume for truck traffic and a reduction in CO-2 emissions on the transport route for our parcel service providers.

E.W. NEU started the implementation and preparations of the ISO 14001 environmental management system in 2021 and completed it in 2022.

In May 2021, E.W.NEU successfully passed the audit of the German Institute for Sustainability & Economy for the areas of ecology, economy and social competence. Download certificate.

E.W.NEU is also active in the area of circular economy and tries to apply a "Cradle to Cradle Principle" for both suppliers and customers. This is anchored as a requirement for our suppliers. As a lessor of power tools (drills, angle grinders, etc.), E.W.NEU also offers all customers the option of buying the machines at the end of the leasing period and does not scrap them as other market competitors do. Here we apply the principle of the sharing economy and were already able to successfully win a long-term framework agreement with a railway company in 2019 with significant 7-figure sales.

On 01.07.2022 E.W. NEU started CO2-neutral shipping for all its shipments with UPS (Carbon Neutral Shipment) and also implemented the paperless office with the migration to the latest ERP system from Microsoft Navision.

Since 26.07.2022, E.W.NEU GmbH is Eco-Vadis (ECOVADIS) certified with the silver status and belongs to the best 25% rated companies. (Download certificate)

E.W. NEU audits its supply chains in detail with all previously mentioned audits and can also provide customer requested sustainability information about the manufacturer or item in the online store or digital ordering system to the customer.
